Fast detector of radiation-induced genetic damage

CZ.01.1.02/0.0/0.0/20_321/0024889
Description

The project focuses on the rapid biodosimetric determination of the level of radiation exposure of a person exposed to high doses of ionizing radiation from a sample of their body fluid. A blood sample is electrochemically analyzed, and within a few minutes, a rough estimate of organism damage is determined by measuring the concentration of 8-hydroxyguanine molecules. This method allows for the rapid primary screening of a wide spectrum of irradiated populations for subsequent time-consuming detailed analysis of radiation damage to the organism.

The outcome of the project is a functional prototype of a handheld miniature detection device for determining absorbed dose at high levels of radiation damage to the organism, supplemented with software for analysis, online rapid sample evaluation, and an additional system for comprehensive evaluation and archiving.
