Objectives

 

The aims of this module are:
-   to provide insight and get knowledge of the principles of how data is coded
-   to provide insight and understanding of lossless data compression

 

Contents

 

Introduction to Source compaction codes such as Fixed-Length Block
Codes, Variable-Length Block Codes and Variable-Length Tree Codes
Data-compression in a four-stage model
Table-based compresion and aritmetic coding
Lempel-Ziv compression
Optimizing for decompression speed and compression ratio
